How long is a mare in season?
Most mares experience heat cycles during spring and summer months, when days are longer and warmer. On average, your mare will be in heat (estrus) for six days, then out for 15 days in a recurring cycle.
Can you ride a horse in pony Club?
No! The Pony Club is for everyone up to the age of 25, and members come from all walks of life and all riding abilities. There is plenty of choice and members are encouraged to fulfil their potential and meet their personal goals, whatever they may be.

These rides must have been achieved since 1st September 2020 and at least one of them completed in the current year and one of them at an EGB national ride. At Grassroots level entries must be paid up members of The Pony Club to participate and must be 8 years old and older on the day of competition.
What do you do when a mare is in season?
For the few days when the mare is strongly in season, don't expect her to work successfully on difficult tasks or easily learn something new. This is a good time, though, to work with exercises that force her to stay focused, such as ground poles, jumping combinations and frequent changes of gait or direction.
What happens when a horse is in season?
The most intense estrus behavior occurs when the mare is most sexually receptive to the stallion. Intense estrus behavior lasts about three days. A mare in heat may actively seek out and attempt to stay in the vicinity of a stallion. During the peak of estrus, the mare may sniff, lick, or nuzzle the stallion.

Can you join Pony Club 18?
Membership is open to anyone up to the age of 25. There is no national minimum age to join The Pony Club, although some Branches/Centres may have their own lower age limit depending on what they offer.

Minimum cost per day to keep one horse is $5.01 per day or $1828.65 per year.
What should I wear to The Pony Club?
When mounted at Pony Club activities, Members should wear a riding jacket or Branch / Linked Centre sweatshirt, jodhpurs, a suitable plain-coloured shirt with a collar and The Pony Club tie. New clothing is not expected, but what is worn must be clean, neat and tidy.
