Can a person learn to run faster?
Any runner interested in running faster should incorporate speed training into their training plan. If you're a novice runner, however, consider starting slowly. Concentrate initially on building endurance and mileage, then move on to incorporate speed workouts into your training.
Can I force myself to run faster?
Increasing your pace when you're already tired is a great way to "force" your body to get faster. Try running the last 2 to 4 miles at a steady-state effort or your goal marathon pace. Another option is to run a simple fartlek of 1 to 2 minutes hard with equal recovery during the second half of your long run.
